Growing Life Long Learning

Get in Touch

Day 1

Welcome back to Home Learning Year 3.

As well as maths and literacy, this week you could perhaps do some sketching or baking.

1) PE

If you want to start your week with a 30 minute PE lesson, then follow the link below to find a live streaming of 'PE with Joe' at 9:00 AM. Joe Wicks is a body coach who is doing an exercise routine for children every week day morning during the school closures:

Here are the answers for Friday’s maths work:

Maths starter activity:

Write down your score in the back of your maths book. Can you beat Friday’s score? In class, we have been working on speeding up the x2, x5 and x10 tables. Perhaps, you could try speeding up the x4 table? Some may need to challenge themselves to the x3.

GOAL- To put Fractions on a Number Line

How to draw 1/3 on a number line:

Draw a line about 12 squares long in your book with a ruler.

Remember that 1/3 is simply one whole thing split into 3 equal parts.

So, count how many squares you have – 12. Now divide 12 into 3 equal parts.

12 ÷ 3 = 4.

Therefore, every 4 squares along the line, you can put another 1/3:

0        1/3        2/3        3/3

You could extend this to:

0        1/3        2/3        3/3        4/3        5/3        6/3        7/3        8/3        9/3

As “three out of three” means the whole thing, 3/3 = 1, 6/3 = 2, 9/3 = 3. So:

0        1/3        2/3         1         1 1/3        1 2/3        2        2 1/3        2 2/3        3

Vocabulary you may need:

Equivalent means equal. So, 1/2 = 2/4 = 3/6 = 4/8 = 5/10

How to find out if a fraction is smaller or larger than a half:

If you think of an even number, say 14. Then work out half of 14 …7

7/14 is “seven out of fourteen” so, it = 1/2

If you have 1/14, 2/14, 3/14, 4/14, 5/14, 6/14 – all of these are < 1/2

If you have 8/14, 9/14, 10/14, 11/14, 12/14, 13/14, 14/14 – all of these are >1/2

Today’s maths work:

You can watch a short video about today's task:
Here is today's task:

Today’s task is a grammar task - the revision of Prepositions.

Remember, prepositions are words or groups of words (phrases) that describe:

  • Time               eg later, meanwhile, during, after a few minutes

  • Place              eg under, by, to the right, over the other side, between

  • Cause            eg thanks to, due to, because of
