White Rose Maths

Today, the snail is looking at a new maths theme of ‘odd and even’ numbers. This is a great warm up activity, ready for some work next week as this also links in with doubling and halving!

Marvellous Maths – Money

Today we are going to have a look at counting in 2’s. Draw a number line to 20 or print the attached one. Start at zero. When you count in 2’s you miss one number and then count the next, miss one number then count the next. Have a go at doing this down your number line. Now either print pages 1 to 12 of the uploaded document (you can print 4 pages to a page as they are quite large) or draw the coins out based on what they look like on the document. Ask an adult to cut them out and muddle them up. Use your number line to help you to stick them in order of 2’s from 0 to 20.

These numbers are also called ‘even’ numbers (referred to in today’s White Rose Maths too).

Have a look at the loom video. I have bags of 2p’s. Use your number line to help you to count in 2’s to write down how much money is in each bag in total. I will go through the answers at the end of the video.

Phonics

Mrs Huckfield’s Group

  • Today we are recapping over phase 2 tricky words. First, click on the Phonics Play link and login. Select Resources and then the game ‘Tricky Word Trucks’ (like flashcards speed trial). Select ‘Phase 2 all HFW’. HFW stands for High Frequency Words. These are words that can be sounded out but they are common words that the children may see regularly that they should be able to read on sight without having to sound out and blend. The game will also have the tricky words in too. I does not matter though if they need to sound out the HFW during this game.
  • Now ask your child to write these words. Can they remember how to?
  • I, no, go, to, the, into.
  • Now see if they can write these sentences…
  • I can hop and run.
  • No I will not sit.
  • Go and get a hat.
  • I want to visit gran.
  • The cat is on the mat.
  • Get into a van.

Miss Johnson’s/Mrs Chamber’s Group’s

  • Now we will move onto phase 3 tricky words. Ask your child if they can write down these words. She, me, we, he, be.
  • On PhonicsPlay select Phase 3 and the game ‘Train Your Brain’. Select ‘Choose Words’ and click on the words ‘was, my, you, they’ in turn. Look at the tricky bits in the words. Can your child work out what any of them say? Discuss them and say them in a sentence so your child can put them into context.
  • Now ask your child to write them down one by one to see if they can remember how to spell them. They may need some support and this is ok as it’s the first time they have looked at them.
