Topic

This week we are having an R.E focus and our main area of learning. Our question is 'Which places are special and why?'. We are going to be looking at special places in our community and also religious special places (a Church and a Mosque).

I have uploaded a Power-point for each one of these areas. I would like you to draw a picture of your special place and write about it underneath. Where is it? Why is it special to you? How do you feel when you go there?

I would also like you to have a go at designing your own prayer mat. Prayer mats are elaborately decorated with geometric patterns, consisting of shapes. I have uploaded some examples of these sorts of patterns you can look at before designing your own.

We are also starting to look at transport in the past, how different it was compared to nowadays and how it has changed to be more efficiant.

Below I have attached some pictures of old and new transport. See if you can sort them into piles and then identify what transport each of the pictures shows from the olden days. How do you know that is an old version of transport? Is there a detail or clue in the photo that helped you to know this?

Marvellous Maths

For the first session of this week the children are looking at weighing and seeing if objects are heavier and lighter. In school we have 2 sided scales for your child to physically see when one item is heaver than another, as that side goes down. At home you may want to demonstrate using yourself as 'human' scales! then your child could have a go at being the scales. You could give them 2 objects and whichever they think is heavier, they tilt their body that way!

I will be uploading video links to the Powerpoint teaching for Maths sessions from now on so please watch these before doing the activity.

Alive in 5! - Week 3 - Session 1

Session two is looking at capacity. For the activity your child could have a go at using the vocabulary to describe how full a cup is (Full, nearly full, half full, nearly empty, empty) and then maybe have a go at putting them in order from the fullest to empty.

Session 12 - Full and empty

Alive in 5! - Week 3 - Session 2

The third session of the week continues to look at capacity and how much a container can hold. Your child could have a go at predicting how many cup fulls of water will fit in a selection of containers. They could record these predictions on paper, practising their number formation.

Session 13 - Measuring capacity

Alive in 5! - Week 3 - Session 3

The fourth and final session of the week looks at measuring out ingredients. There is a recipe attached for a no-cook playdough but you could also use this opportunity to cook something yummy together!
