Week 28.02.22
Phonics
All Phonics learning and activities can be found on Tapestry.
Topic
So we begin our new topic called 'The Circle of Life' and this week we are focusing on 'Where does our food come from? and Garden Centres (as this is what our Roleplay area has been turned into!).
First of all, ask your child what they think of when you say 'The Circle of Life' and create a mind map of their answers. Then introduce a Garden Centre. Do they know what one is? Have they been to one before? What might you buy there?
Below is a link to a video about people visiting a Garden Centre.
Next we are going to be looking at farming and food and where it comes from. I have attached some sorting cards which your child can use to sort into pairs of food and its origin. Talk about the different types of food e.g. meat, fruit and vegetables and how they are grown.
There is also a video link below which shows the children how we get beef. This video has been produced by Tesco's and on You Tube there is a wide variety of video's produced by them, for children to understand about where there food has started to when it gets to their shelves. Feel free to watch as many as you like. It might be nice to see the different between meat and vegetables and how they make their journey to the shop for us to buy!
If you are wearing a costume at home then please send us a photo on Tapestry as we would love to see your outfit! Below i have uploaded some activities you can do to celebrate this extremely special day. There is an assembly Powerpoint so your child understands more about why this is such an important day. There is a scavenger hunt, a 'Guess the character' Powerpoint and some activity idea sheets for a variety of books. Choose one you like and have a go at one of the activities.
Marvellous Maths
This week we are moving into our next phase of learning called 'Building 9 and 10'. The first session looks at different ways of representing 9 and 10. After the video, have a go at exploring this and writing down all the number sentences for different ways of making 9.
The next session looks at ordering numerals to 10 and then spotting any mistakes. After the video, make some number cards to 10 and ask your child to put them in order. Then your child can close their eyes whilst you swap 2 around. See if your child can notice the mistake. Then they can do it to you! Repeat!
Our third lesson looks at the different ways of representing 9. After watching the video, repeat Mondays activity but this time writing number sentences to make 10.
Your last session involves playing numeral bingo! After the video, your child and whoever else wants to play can choose a bingo board. Take turns to turn over a representation card and if you have that numeral on your board, you know what do!
