Tag Rugby Tournament
Two teams made up of seven Year 5s and eight Year 6s took part at a Tag Rugby Tournament held at Shipston Rugby Club last Friday.
The aim of the tournament was to provide the children with the skills and knowledge of the Tag Rugby game and to instil the five rugby core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship. The games were refereed by Shipston Rugby Club coaches, who provided plenty of encouragement and tips to enable all the children to improve their skills and build their confidence.
At the start of the day, some of the children were feeling a bit nervous as they had not played a proper tag rugby game. However, they all gave 100% in each game and by the end of the day they were confident and very adept at taking the tags from opposing team players and scoring tries. Both teams showed great team spirit and were a credit to the school. They took on board the rugby core values and many of the Quinton players were seen selflessly helping each other to score tries, showing excellent teamwork and sportsmanship.
At the end of the tournament, many of the Quinton players were selected for special awards recognising individual effort and achievement. Bertie (Y5) was awarded a Magic Moments award for an excellent try, where he managed to run the whole length of the pitch avoiding losing his tag and scoring a superb try. Maddie (Y5) was awarded a rugby ball for her speed and determination to score tries. Claudia and Olivia (both Y6) shared an award for their teamwork, determination and try scoring.
Both teams were overall joint winners of the tournament with Acorns Primary School. The impressive trophy will spend six months with Acorns and in the spring term will be handed over to Quinton. Well done team Quinton!

Quinton Primary School is a village school about six miles from Stratford-upon-Avon. It has grown in size since September 2010 and, as a result of extensions to the existing building in the summer of 2014, is now single form entry with in excess of 240 children on roll.
Our latest successful Ofsted in June 2022 (published in September 2022) has confirmed that we continue to have a “good” school with high standards where both children and staff are highly motivated to do their very best. We have a school where our key priority is happy children who we want to look back on their school days as the best days of their lives.
