Pupil Premium

Quinton Primary School > Key Information > Pupil Premium

At Quinton Primary School, we are committed to providing outstanding opportunities for all children, ensuring that every pupil is able to thrive both academically and personally. We recognise that some children may face additional challenges or hardships that can affect their learning and wellbeing. Our Pupil Premium strategy reflects our determination to remove barriers to learning, provide targeted support where needed, and ensure that all children – regardless of their background or circumstances – feel supported, valued and able to achieve their full potential.

Pupil Premium is allocated to schools with pupils on roll that are known to have been eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) at any time in the last six years, that are children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months, or that are children of service personnel. Schools have the freedom to spend the Pupil Premium, which is additional to the underlying schools budget, in a way they think will best support the raising of attainment for the most vulnerable pupils.

Families who receive the following are eligible for free school meals:

  • Income support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related employment and support allowance (ESA)
  • Guarantee element of state pension credit
  • Universal Credit (with an annual income of less than £7,400)
  • Both income-based and contribution-based JSA/ESA if you receive the same amount for both. You should also qualify if you receive both but the income-based amount is greater, but not if the contribution-based amount is greater.
  • Families who are awarded Child Tax Credit and have an annual income, as assessed by HMRC, not in excess of £16,190 are also eligible to claim free school meals providing there is no entitlement to Working Tax Credit (unless in respect of a 4-week ‘run-on’).

Pupil Premium Strategy 25/26

Each year, we publish a Pupil Premium Strategy that explains how our Pupil Premium funding has been used, the impact this spending has had on pupils, and how we plan to allocate the funding for the current academic year.

At Quinton Primary School, we use Pupil Premium funding carefully and strategically to ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to thrive. Many of the approaches we invest in benefit all children across the school, strengthening high-quality teaching, support and enrichment. Alongside this, we are proud to be able to provide targeted opportunities for our Pupil Premium pupils that may not otherwise be accessible.

This year, we have been particularly excited to use funding to support music lessons and educational trips for Pupil Premium pupils, helping to broaden experiences, build confidence and nurture individual talents. We have also been able to fully or partially fund Breakfast Club, as well as before-school and after-school clubs, for families who require additional support, ensuring pupils are ready to learn and able to take part in wider school life.

Pupil voice is highly valued at Quinton. We regularly check in with our pupils to ensure they are receiving the right support and to understand which opportunities they would like to explore. This helps us to adapt provision so it truly meets their needs and aspirations.

Aspiration is one of our Quinton Qualities and sits at the heart of our Pupil Premium strategy. We believe every child deserves the chance to discover their passions, raise their ambitions and develop the confidence that will support them throughout their lives.
