Music Enrichment Day

Quinton Primary School > Curriculum > Curriculum Enrichment > Music Enrichment Day

For Music Day, our pupils took on the exciting challenge of becoming real songwriters, using our school vision as their inspiration. Working in groups, they began by creating their own chorus, thinking carefully about lyrics that were meaningful, memorable, and reflected our shared values. Each group performed their ideas, and together we voted for the chorus with the catchiest tune and the strongest message to represent our school.

The children were then placed into band groups and each group was given one of our core values: Aspiration, Bravery, or Compassion. Their task was to write a four-line verse to match their value, with an added challenge—every line had to contain exactly eight syllables, and pairs of lines needed to rhyme. This encouraged them to think deeply about both language and rhythm, while ensuring their lyrics clearly reflected the meaning behind their value.

Once all the verses were complete, we brought everything together to create a full school song. The children worked collaboratively to rehearse and refine their performance, building confidence and teamwork along the way. The finished piece was proudly performed in assembly, where pupils showcased not only their musical talents but also their understanding of our school values.

Next, we are taking our song to the next level. The children will be working on adding a tune with backing instruments, preparing for an exciting recording session in a real studio. We look forward to sharing our finished track and playing it during assemblies—a lasting celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the spirit of Quinton.

We then combined the chorus and verses into a full song and performed it in assembly. Next, we will add music and backing instruments before recording our song in a real studio to share in future assemblies.
