On Wednesday 29th April I carried out a Religious Education and Worldviews enrichment day for KS2 children. The children created artwork for an international competition called ‘The Spirited Arts competition’. It is an annual, creative arts competition run by the National Association of Teachers of Religious Education (NATRE) that invites students aged 3–19 to explore complex themes regarding religion, worldviews, and spirituality through art, poetry, music, or video. It aims to promote creative Religious Education, with top entries displayed in an online gallery. The children could choose from 6 different themes:-
Pupils began by reading the synopsis for each theme title and then discussing as a group the religious links that connect to each theme title. This included recapping religious stories and looking at artwork. before the children then designed and sketched their ideas. A wide variety of resources and media were then presented to the children and they were given free reign to create their artwork piece. Some children made sculptures using clay, others used oil pastels or experimented with collage. We managed to get at least 1 piece for each theme and they will be entered into the competition which closes on July 31st. Winners will be announced in the new academic year and children will be notified if they have received a prize. Prizes include money or Amazon vouchers!
