At Quinton Primary School, Geography is a carefully planned and progressive part of the curriculum that takes place during curriculum‑timetabled time and is delivered to all pupils. Our Geography curriculum is taught through the Kapow Primary scheme of work, which has been designed to fully meet the statutory expectations of the National Curriculum for Geography in England. Lessons build pupils’ knowledge and understanding across the key strands of locational knowledge, place knowledge, human and physical geography, and geographical skills including fieldwork – ensuring children learn not only about the world around them, but how to think and act like geographers.
We believe Geography is essential for helping children make sense of the world, appreciate diverse places and environments, and understand how people interact with the planet. The Kapow Primary curriculum supports this by developing pupils’ curiosity, enquiry skills and critical thinking as they investigate real places from the UK to regions across the globe, use maps and fieldwork, and explore pressing environmental issues. Through this structured progression of skills and knowledge, we want every child to enjoy discovering new places, build confidence in using geographical vocabulary and concepts, and develop the understanding they need to become informed, active citizens of the future.
