MFL

Quinton Primary School > Curriculum > MFL

Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) at Quinton Primary School gives pupils the opportunity to learn a new language in a structured and engaging way during timetabled curriculum lessons. In line with the National Curriculum for Languages (England), pupils at our school study French. Through learning French, children develop key skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, while building confidence in communicating in another language. Pupils are introduced to new vocabulary, pronunciation and simple grammatical structures through a range of interactive activities such as songs, games, stories and conversations. As they progress, they begin to understand how language works and develop the ability to express ideas and respond to others in French.

At Quinton Primary School, we believe that learning a foreign language is an important part of a broad and balanced education. Our MFL curriculum is designed to meet the aims of the National Curriculum for Languages (England) by fostering pupils’ curiosity and deepening their understanding of the world. We encourage children to enjoy language learning, take risks when speaking, and develop a positive attitude towards communicating in another language. Through learning French and exploring aspects of French-speaking cultures, pupils build the foundations that will support further language learning and help them become confident, global citizens.
