Physical education is the planned, progressive learning that takes place in school curriculum timetabled time and which is delivered to all pupils. This involves both ‘learning to move’ (i.e. becoming more physically competent) and ‘moving to learn’ (e.g. learning through movement, a range of skills and understandings beyond physical activity, such as co-operating with others). The context for the learning is physical activity, with children experiencing a broad range of activities, including sport and dance.
At Quinton Primary School, we believe that physical education is essential for developing healthy, active lifestyles, building confidence, and promoting teamwork. We want every child to enjoy being active, try new sports, and develop the skills to keep themselves fit and healthy for life.
All children take part in two one-hour PE lessons each week:
In addition, pupils in Years 2 – 6 take part in ten minutes of “Active Time” every day. These are short bursts of physical activity designed to boost energy, focus, and positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle, led by our Year 6 Sports Leaders.

By the end of Key Stage 2, the National Curriculum expects all children to:
We are committed to ensuring children leave our school confident and safe in the water.
