Personal Development

Quinton Primary School > Curriculum > Personal Development

At Quinton Primary School, we believe that education goes beyond academic success. We are committed to developing well-rounded individuals who are confident, resilient, and ready for the challenges of life beyond the classroom. Our approach to personal development ensures that every child is supported in growing socially, emotionally, morally, and culturally.

Our Approach to Personal Development

We provide a broad and rich curriculum that nurtures children’s character, well-being, and understanding of the world. Our focus includes:

  • Building Character and Confidence – Encouraging independence, resilience, and a growth mindset.
  • Promoting Emotional Well-being – Ensuring children feel safe, valued, and able to express themselves.
  • Developing Social Skills – Encouraging teamwork, communication, and positive relationships.
  • Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion – Promoting respect, tolerance, and appreciation of different backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures.
  • Encouraging Responsibility and Leadership – Giving children opportunities to take on roles such as School Council members, Eco-Warriors, and Peer Mentors.

How We Embed Personal Development

Personal, Social, Health & Economic (PSHE) Education

Our PSHE curriculum equips children with essential life skills, covering topics such as:
✔ Health and well-being
✔ Relationships and friendships
✔ Online safety and responsible technology use
✔ Financial awareness and decision-making

Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural (SMSC) Development

We embed SMSC learning throughout our curriculum, assemblies, and wider school experiences. This helps children develop self-awareness, empathy, and a strong moral compass.

British Values

We actively promote the fundamental British values of:
🔹 Democracy – Encouraging pupil voice and decision-making.
🔹 Rule of Law – Understanding why rules matter in school and society.
🔹 Individual Liberty – Supporting children to make safe and informed choices.
🔹 Mutual Respect and Tolerance – Fostering an inclusive and accepting school environment.

Opportunities Beyond the Classroom

Personal development is enriched through a variety of activities:

  • Extracurricular Clubs – A wide range of clubs that cater to different interests, from sports and drama to coding and gardening.
  • Trips and Workshops – Inspiring visits and expert-led sessions that bring learning to life.
  • Performances and Celebrations – Class assemblies, plays, and showcases that build confidence and creativity.
  • Community Engagement – Encouraging social responsibility through charity work, environmental projects, and local events.

Well-being and Support

We are dedicated to supporting children’s mental and emotional well-being by:

  • Providing a nurturing and inclusive school environment.
  • Ensuring pupils have trusted adults they can talk to.
  • Running well-being initiatives and mindfulness activities.
  • Offering additional support through pastoral care and external agencies where needed.

At Quinton Primary School, we take pride in helping children grow into kind, confident, and capable young people who are ready to contribute positively to their communities. Personal development is woven into everything we do, ensuring every child is prepared for life, both in school and beyond.
