Attendance

Quinton Primary School > Key Information > Attendance

At Quinton Primary School, we recognise the vital role that regular and punctual attendance plays in a child’s academic success and overall well-being. We work closely with families to ensure that all children attend school as consistently as possible, in line with national expectations.

Attendance Expectations & Recent Changes

The Department for Education (DfE) has recently introduced updates to school attendance expectations to further emphasise the importance of regular attendance. These changes include:

  • A stronger focus on early intervention where attendance falls below expected levels.
  • Clearer guidance on authorised and unauthorised absences.
  • Enhanced communication between schools, parents, and local authorities to support good attendance.

It is important that parents and carers familiarise themselves with these expectations. Relevant documents and policies related to attendance can be found on our school website under the ‘Policies’ section.

Why Attendance Matters

Research shows that even a few days of absence can have a significant impact on learning. Children who attend school regularly are more likely to:
✔ Keep up with their learning and make good progress.
✔ Build positive friendships and social skills.
✔ Develop a strong routine that prepares them for future education and employment.

Reporting Absences

If your child is unwell or unable to attend school, please inform the school office by 8:45 am on the first day of absence. You can do this via:
📞 A phone call to the school office
📧 An email
📱 Using the Reach More Parents app

If we do not receive a reason for absence, it will be marked as unauthorised, and we may need to follow up with parents.

Where to Find More Information

We appreciate the support of all parents and carers in ensuring that children develop good attendance habits, setting them up for success both now and in the future. If you have any concerns about attendance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
