Transition

Quinton Primary School > Classes > Nursery > Transition

Our Nursery is a warm, welcoming environment where we understand that starting nursery—and later moving on to Reception—can be a big step for both children and families. We place a strong focus on supporting smooth, positive transitions so that every child feels safe, confident and ready to learn.

Before children start, we help families become familiar with nursery through photos, videos and information about our routines and environment. We also offer meetings with staff and stay and play sessions, giving children the opportunity to explore the setting and begin building relationships with staff.

Throughout their time in Nursery, we work closely with parents using a communication app called Tapestry. This allows us to share photos, observations and special moments throughout the week, helping us to work in partnership with families to support their child’s learning and development.

As children move towards Reception, we work closely with Reception staff to share information and transition the children sensitively to become familiar with new routines and expectations. Our goal is to ensure that every child moves on feeling happy, secure and excited for the next stage of their school journey.
