In Year 3, children are expected to read at least three times a week at home in order to develop their fluency, comprehension and vocabulary. All children have a homework diary which we ask be used by themselves or a parent to show they have read. By the end of year 3 we expect the children to be making their own comments. Sometimes children will be asked to reread the same book to develop their understanding of the vocabulary or plot. We focus on comprehension and understanding of books as well as the fluency.
In addition to this, children receive a page of math’s homework per week. This goes home on a Wednesday and must be back in school the following Monday. If math’s homework is not handed in on time then children can complete this in homework club on Tuesday lunchtime. Please encourage your children to use their TTRS login at home to help develop their skills and speed.
Children also have spellings to learn each week. Please help your children practise these at home. Children will be tested on their spellings every Monday. Each child has a login for spelling frame which is used in school and can also be accessed from home.
