At Quinton Primary School, our Science curriculum ensures that our children have the knowledge and skills in order to be scientists. Our curriculum is planned so that the children develop the ability to think independently and raise questions throughout their learning. They grow throughout their time in school in confidence and competence in a full range of practical skills, including planning and carrying out scientific investigations. The children are able to demonstrate secure scientific knowledge and understanding in both written and verbal explanations, solving challenging problems and reporting scientific findings. Most of all, our curriculum is designed to instil a passion for science and its application in past, present and future technologies.
Each year we take part in British Science Week across the whole school. These weeks involve workshops, interactive displays, and investigations focusing on that year’s specific theme. The activities are carefully planned to encourage curiosity and problem-solving, demonstrating how science links with other subjects and its relevance to everyday life. This year we were lucky enough to have many parent volunteers from our community come into school to give talks and workshops about what their jobs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) involved. This was incredibly inspirational for the children and helped to open their eyes to the many career opportunities available to them in the world of STEM.

Science in Early Years and Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) is covered through the early learning goals for ‘Knowledge and Understanding of the World’.
