Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) Information Report

At Quinton Primary School, we are committed to creating a highly inclusive environment where every pupil feels safe, valued and able to achieve their full potential. Our aim is to support all learners, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, to access a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum and to make strong progress socially, emotionally and academically.

This SEND Information Report explains how we identify and support pupils with SEND and how we work with pupils, parents/carers and external professionals to ensure needs are met effectively. The report is updated at least annually and reflects how our SEND policy is put into practice.

1. What is SEND?

A pupil has special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) if they have significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of other pupils of the same age, or if they have a disability that prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities generally provided for pupils of the same age. We support pupils across all four broad areas of need:

  • Communication and Interaction
  • Cognition and Learning
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health
  • Sensory and/or Physical needs

2. Who can I talk to if I have concerns about my child’s needs?

If you have concerns about your child’s learning or development, please speak initially with your child’s class teacher. You can also contact our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO):
Name: Sarah Miller
Email: via admin2043@welearn365.com
Telephone: 01789 720317

The SENCO oversees the provision for pupils with SEND and works closely with families, staff and external agencies to ensure effective support is in place.

Mrs Anna Lomax is our SEN Governor.

3. How do we identify and assess SEND?

We use a graduated approach (Assess – Plan – Do – Review) to identify and support pupils with SEND. Class teachers continually monitor pupil progress and attainment. If a pupil is identified as having additional needs, we:

  • Gather information from observations, assessments and discussions with parents/carers
  • Involve specialist professionals where appropriate
  • Develop tailored support plans with clear targets and regular review points

4. How do we support pupils with SEND?

Support is carefully matched to need and may include:

  • Quality First Teaching and in-class adjustments
  • Small group or 1:1 interventions
  • Specialist resources, equipment or personalised programmes
  • Support from external professionals (e.g. speech and language, educational psychology)
  • Termly reviews of progress and provision

We work in partnership with parents/carers and children so that plans are meaningful and tailored to individual goals and strengths.

5. How do we ensure equality of access?

Quinton Primary is committed to ensuring that pupils with SEND are not treated less favourably than other pupils. We make reasonable adjustments to the curriculum and environment to support access to learning and opportunities. We also ensure that disabled pupils and those with SEND can fully participate in all aspects of school life. Our Accessibility Plan explains how we are improving access to the curriculum, the physical environment and information for pupils with disabilities.

6. How do we measure the impact of SEND support?

We carefully track pupil progress through assessment data, intervention records and teacher observations. Pupil progress is reviewed regularly through:

  • Termly progress meetings
  • SENCO and teacher reflection meetings
  • Monitoring of learning and work
  • Feedback from pupils and families

This enables us to adapt support and provision to meet evolving needs and ensure children continue to make progress.

7. How do we support transitions?

We ensure smooth transitions at key points, including:

  • Entering school (Reception) – discussions with Nursery settings, home visits (if requested), induction meetings and shared transition plans
  • Moving between classes – transition meetings and buddy programmes
  • Moving to secondary school – enhanced liaison with receiving schools, shared information and bespoke transition support

This helps pupils feel confident and ready for the next stage of their education.

8. How are parents and pupils involved?

We actively involve parents/carers and pupils by:

  • Holding regular SEND review meetings
  • Sharing progress, outcomes and next steps
  • Offering advice on how to support learning at home
  • Listening to pupil voice through discussions and surveys

Partnership with families is central to our approach and helps us plan effective support.

9. How do I raise a concern or make a complaint?

If you have concerns about SEND support at Quinton, please speak to your child’s class teacher or the SENCO. In the unlikely event that concerns are not resolved, our Complaints Policy outlines how worries can be raised formally. This policy can be found on the Policies page of our website.
