At Quinton Primary School, Music is a carefully planned and progressive part of the curriculum that takes place during curriculum-timetabled time and is delivered to all pupils. Our Music curriculum is taught through the Kapow Primary scheme of work, which has been designed to fully meet the statutory expectations of the National Curriculum for Music in England. Lessons build pupils’ knowledge and understanding across the key strands of listening and evaluating, creating sound, notation, improvising and composing, and performing, ensuring that children not only learn about music but also develop the skills and confidence to think and act like musicians.
We believe Music plays an important role in enriching pupils’ creativity, self-expression and cultural understanding. The Kapow Primary curriculum supports this by developing pupils’ musical curiosity, creativity and confidence as they explore a wide range of musical styles, learn about different instruments and composers, and create their own music through improvisation and composition. Through this structured progression of knowledge and skills, we aim for every child to enjoy making music, develop confidence in using musical vocabulary and notation, and gain the skills they need to perform, collaborate and appreciate music throughout their lives.
