Nursery Facilities
Our nursery classroom is designed to feel like a home away from home. We use soft lighting, cushions, sofas, teddies and photos to help the children feel as comfortable as possible and confident to play and explore. Our classroom is largely open plan and has a variety of different areas and opportunities within to encourage children to be creative, imaginative, build friendships and develop their skills and knowledge.
Our Nursery provision is designed to engage and excite our Nursery children; to build on the skills they already have and scaffold opportunities for deepening their understanding and developing new skills and knowledge. At the start of each year, we keep our provision simple and familiar, using information from families to aid their transition into school. As the year progresses, we adapt and build on our provision to incorporate children's skills and interests, introducing new and different activities and opportunities that is tailored to each group of children.
Areas within our classroom include spaces to be imaginative and creative such as loose parts play, a home corner, role play and dressing up and small world characters such as dinosaurs, animals, people and vehicles.
We embrace messy play at all possible times and use large trays to explore paint, water, sand, and other malleable materials with our whole bodies, which helps develop vital physical skills for later learning. We make and use playdough to squeeze, stretch and mould with, developing strength in our hands and fingers.
We provide spaces to sit quietly and chat, share stories, have cuddles, build relationships and develop social and communication skills. A love of reading, books and stories is weaved throughout all our themes and topics and is the basis of introducing the children to new concepts, discussions and ideas.
We use puzzles, table top games, threading, peg boards and loose parts such as conkers, pine cones, pebbles and logs to develop our turn taking skills, patience and perseverance, imagination and begin to develop simple understanding of number and counting.
Our outdoor area is directly attached to our classroom and is partially covered by a canopy to allow free-flow access to the outdoors in all weathers. We have climbing equipment, a large sand area, opportunities to build and use larger equipment such as bats, balls, hula hoops and stilts.
At Quinton Primary School, we are extremely lucky to have extensive grounds to the rear of the school which incorporate our very own forest school area. We often go on nature walks to explore the wildlife, plants and change in seasons. During the dry months, we use the field and front playground area to play after lunch and enjoy getting outdoors as much as possible in all weathers.
To get a real sense of our environment, we recommend you contact us and arrange a visit with your child. We look forward to showing you why Quinton Primary Nursery is a special place where children are happy, well cared for and able to discover their potential.
